Manoir du Carra

Côteaux Bourguignons (Gamay/Pinot Noir) / 2023 / 750mL

Tasting Note

The Manoir du Carra Côteaux Bourguignons 2023 is a light-footed Burgundy red built on Gamay and Pinot Noir, the sort of bottle that rewards a slight chill and a bit of company. Expect bright red fruit, gentle spice and a supple, easygoing frame rather than depth or grip.

Crushed raspberry and red cherry lead the aromas, with strawberry, a faint peppery lift and something floral in behind. The palate carries that fruit through cleanly — tart cherry, redcurrant, a hint of orange peel — with the Pinot Noir lending a touch of savoury earthiness beneath the Gamay's juiciness. Tannins are fine and barely there, more a light dusting than a structure, and the acidity does most of the work in keeping things lively. Medium-light in body, it finishes short and clean with a tang of red fruit and a whisper of stony bitterness that makes you go back for another sip.

Serve it at around 14 degrees; twenty minutes in the fridge on a warm evening does no harm at all. It suits roast chicken, charcuterie, mushroom pasta, or a plate of grilled sausages with mustard. Drink it now and across the next two to three years, while the fruit is at its most vivid.
