Hautes Cotes de Beaune Blanc / 2022 / 750mL

Tasting Note

La Croix de Brully Hautes Côtes de Beaune Blanc 2022 is a bright, unfussy white Burgundy made from Chardonnay in the hills above the Côte de Beaune. Expect citrus and orchard fruit with a chalky edge rather than the richer, broader style of the valley floor below.

The nose leads with lemon pith, green apple and white peach, with a touch of hazelnut and crushed stone behind. Air brings out something floral, closer to acacia than blossom, and a faint saline lift.

On the palate the fruit is clean and direct, carried by firm acidity that keeps everything taut through the middle. Texture is lightly creamy without turning soft, and the finish is dry, mineral and a little grippy, which is typical of fruit grown at altitude in the Hautes Côtes. The warmth of the 2022 season across Burgundy shows in the ripeness of the fruit rather than any heaviness — the wine still feels lively.

Good with roast chicken, grilled whiting, a soft goat's cheese, or a bowl of mussels with white wine and parsley. It also handles a creamy chicken and leek pie better than most whites at this weight.

Drinking well now and through to around 2027, with a year or two in bottle likely to round out the texture.
