Goose Bay Pinot Noir / Kosher & Mevushal / 2025 / 750mL

Tasting Note

The Goose Bay Pinot Noir 2025 from Spencer Hill Estate is a kosher and mevushal Pinot Noir grown in Upper Moutere, at the top of New Zealand's South Island. It is a bright, medium-bodied style that leads with red fruit rather than weight, making it an easy red to pour for a mixed table.

Aromatically it sits in the red cherry and raspberry end of Pinot Noir, with a little rose petal and a dried herb edge that keeps things savoury. The fruit is clear and unforced, the sort of perfume that opens up over the first half hour in the glass.

On the palate the Goose Bay Pinot Noir carries sweet red berry through a fine, powdery tannin frame, with the clay-rich soils of Upper Moutere lending a touch more grip than you might expect from a young Pinot. Acidity runs clean down the middle and the finish is dry, lightly earthy and moderate in length.

Serve it with roast chicken, grilled lamb, mushroom risotto or a brisket, and give it fifteen minutes in the fridge first if the room is warm. As a mevushal wine it suits Shabbat and festival tables where the bottle may be poured by any guest.

Drink now and over the next three to four years.
