"Chasne" Bourgogne Rouge / 2023 / 750mL

Tasting Note

Domaine Dujardin Bourgogne Rouge 2023 is a light to medium-bodied Pinot Noir from Burgundy, built around bright red fruit and a savoury edge rather than depth or power. It is a village-level style in the honest sense: fresh, drinkable and unmistakably Burgundian in its perfume.

The nose leads with raspberry and small red cherries, then turns earthier as it sits in the glass, with dried rose petal, a touch of undergrowth and a faint peppery lift. On the palate the fruit stays red and tart rather than sweet, with cranberry and pomegranate carrying through to a gentle mineral snap.

Tannins are fine and powdery, doing more to shape the finish than to grip it, and the acidity runs clean and quite firm right through the middle. The texture is light on its feet, and the finish is medium in length, closing dry with a savoury, almost stony aftertaste that pulls you back for the next sip.

Serve at around 14 to 16 degrees, cooler than room temperature, and don't be afraid to give it a short decant. Roast chicken, mushroom risotto, charcuterie or a plate of soft washed-rind cheese all work well. Drinking nicely now and should hold through to about 2028.
