Red Hill Estate Cool Climate Pinot Noir is a supple, savoury Mornington Peninsula pinot in the classic Peninsula mould — bright of fruit, gently earthy, and built for the table rather than the cellar shelf.
Deep crimson in the glass, with dark cherry and red and black berry fruit on the nose, edged with the gamey, cedary savouriness that marks out cooler-grown pinot. The palate follows suit: liqueur cherry and dark berries layered over forest floor, warm baking spice and a whisper of dark chocolate and liquorice, with fine silky tannins carrying a long, graceful finish.
Red Hill Estate has been making cool-climate wines on the hills of the Mornington Peninsula since 1989, and this Cool Climate range draws together fruit from the Peninsula alongside other carefully chosen sites picked for their altitude, maritime influence and volcanic or sedimentary soils.
Serve it lightly chilled, around 14–16°C, with duck breast, roast pork, mushroom risotto or a plate of charcuterie and washed-rind cheese.
