Podere Le Ripi

'Amore & Magia' Brunello di Montalcino DOCG / 2019 / 750mL

Tasting Note

Podere Le Ripi 'Amore & Magia' Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2019 is a Sangiovese from Montalcino in Tuscany that leans towards perfume and line rather than sheer muscle. It has the savoury, slightly wild edge Montalcino does so well, wrapped around bright red fruit and firm acidity.

Sour cherry and cranberry lead, with dried rose petal, orange zest and a dusting of sweet spice behind them. Air brings out something earthier — leather, dried porcini, crushed stone — and the fruit stays taut and red-toned rather than turning dark or jammy.

Medium-bodied, with tannins that are fine-grained but plentiful, gripping through the middle of the palate and drawing the finish out long and dry. Acidity does much of the work here, keeping the wine lifted and giving it a certain nervous energy. The aftertaste is more savoury than fruity, closing on tea leaf and dried herb.

Decant an hour ahead if you're opening it now, and serve at around 16–18°C in a decent-sized bowl. It suits slow-cooked beef cheek, rabbit with olives, aged pecorino, or a plate of pasta with a rich ragù. Drinking well from 2026, and there is enough structure and acid to carry it comfortably through to 2038 and likely beyond.
