The Stonier Pinot Noir 2025 from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria is a fragrant, medium-bodied cool-climate red with real depth through the middle. Drawn from Southern Peninsula grower vineyards, it pairs the bright red fruit the region is known for with a savoury, forest-floor edge.
Wild strawberry and dark cherry lead the aromatics, with raspberry behind them and a earthy, mushroom-and-undergrowth character that gives the bouquet its seriousness. The palate follows the same line: red berries first, then a fuller, brooding middle that carries more weight than the perfume suggests.
Tannins are fine and neatly drawn, closing the wine off cleanly rather than gripping. The 2025 season on the Peninsula was warm and dry with an unusually early start to picking, and the fruit came in ripe while holding its acidity, which shows here as plush flavour on a bright, lifted finish.
Delicious with roast duck, mushroom risotto, glazed pork belly or a plate of charcuterie all work, as does grilled salmon if you want to keep things lighter. Stonier Pinot Noir 2025 is approachable now and should drink well through to about 2031.
