The Blind Corner Orange Wine 2025 is a skin-contact white from Margaret River in Western Australia, made along organic and natural lines. Expect something textural and savoury rather than sweet — the "orange" refers to the colour and the skin time, not sugar.
The nose leans into dried apricot, quince paste and orange peel, with a top note of chamomile and a faint waxy, nutty edge that comes with extended skin contact. There's fresh pear and white nectarine sitting underneath, keeping it lively rather than purely funky.
On the palate the tannin does the heavy lifting: fine, grippy and slightly chalky, drawing the fruit out long and dry. Margaret River's maritime climate keeps acidity in good shape, so the wine stays taut through the middle before finishing on bitter citrus pith and tea leaf. Serve it lightly chilled, around 12 to 14 degrees, so the texture doesn't go flabby.
Food is where this style really earns its keep. Try it with a spiced chicken tagine, grilled haloumi and roast pumpkin, pork and fennel sausages, or a board of washed-rind cheese and quince. It also handles turmeric, cumin and chilli far better than a conventional white.
Drink now through to 2028. It's expressive and open in its youth, and the tannin will soften and settle over the next couple of years.
