Deutz Brut Classic NV is a poised, finely balanced non-vintage Champagne from the heart of the Champagne region in France. It leans towards elegance and clarity rather than weight, with a quiet creaminess running underneath the fruit.
Aromas of white peach, green apple and lemon pith lift from the glass, with a gentle brioche and almond character that builds as the wine warms. The fruit stays bright and precise, never showy.
On the palate the bead is fine and persistent, carrying a taut line of citrus acidity through a chalky, dry middle. Texture comes from a soft, biscuity undertow that fills out the mid-palate, and the finish is long, saline and clean, closing on grapefruit and crushed stone rather than sweetness.
Pour it with Sydney rock oysters, hand-cut kingfish crudo, salt and pepper squid, or a simple roast chicken with tarragon. It also handles aperitif duty without a plate, and has enough cut to sit alongside fried food and good chips.
