Château Sénéjac 2015 offers a beautiful red colour with beautiful red colour with brilliant reflections. The first nose is precise, with cherry notes. It is prolonged by spicy notes, sign of the presence of Petit Verdot. The attack in mouth is fresh, balanced and smooth. The tannins are silky and distinguished. On the palate, the fruits are ripe and fleshy. The finish is long, precise, with a beautiful aromatic intensity. This vintage thus presents a very beautiful potential of guard, it is an elegant, aromatic wine, of a beautiful tannic smoothness which will delight all the amateurs of médoc.
A first for Lake's Folly, this year's Red is a blend of Shiraz 47%, Merlot 34%, and Petit Verdot 19%. After harvesting our Shiraz, Merlot and Petit Verdot (and Chardonnay) grapes in 2022, we experienced very late harvest rainfall which impacted the Cabernet grapes, leading us to the decision to not harvest the Cabernet (the first time on record this has happened at Lake's Folly). The finished result: a unique, unprecedented blend - a cracking wine (albeit without our usual Cabernet component), though in very limited quantities this release!
Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre are brilliantly compatible - as many people will have discovered in great examples from the Rhone Valley. The blend gives spicy blackberryish flavours and a hint of pepper. There is also a distinctive mineral, perfumed note that comes from the Mourvedre. The different soils and altitudes contribute hugely too.
